A long time ago, before the
urbanization, the real name of this beach was Middle
Beach (Praia do Meio). It was a trendy place in the 70's
with attractions of that golden time such as the Pizza
Restaurant "Alegria, Alegria", the disco "in" and the
Japanese Restaurant of the Miami Hotel, all of them
still peopling the memories of the ones who "saw those
days". Until the first half of the last century, the
beach formed a secluded place along with the set of
Hills Piragüíra and Paranambuco.
The foot of the Piragüíra
Hill was urbanized, receiving many constructions around
the beach in the 70's, including some buildings that
nevertheless did not destroyed the panorama, on the
contrary, they formed a modern and trendy section of the
city close to the secondary and primary Atlantic Forest
that still covers Piragüíra Hill. The avenue along the
beach was recently rebuilt and once again urbanized,
renewing the panorama. There are belvederes at the top of
the Piragüíra Hill that unveils magnificent views
southwards, such as the Paranambuco Hill and the
vastness of the Peruíbe Beach. The tourist will find
bars, ice cream parlors and restaurants presenting the
local and the international cuisine. People are
courteous and helpful. There's a path on the rocky coast
behind the famous Miami Hotel - still open - that leads to the
Shells Beach, the Rocky Coastline and the Anchieta's Bed
(a rocky formation that according to the legend was used
by the Jesuit in the 16th century as a bed during his
meditations and prayers).
